Jean E. Porter Mowatt
President and CEO

Jean is a communications specialist, with many years of experience in developing and managing new and innovative programs. Her business experience spans 39 years in the cablevision and print media in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.  Jean was the first recipient of the Omer Girard Award presented by the Canadian Cable Television Association recognizing her innovative programming in cable television. 

From 1981-85 Jean was a Committee Coordinator and Assistant General Manager of the very successful Jeux Canada Games ‘85 held in Saint John, New Brunswick. 

It was Jean’s vision that brought the training centre, Care-Ed Learning to Senior Watch® in 2003 to ensure comprehensive training for the caregivers at Senior Watch and beyond.

Sharon earned her Registered Nurse diploma from Saint John General Hospital School of Nursing and completed post graduate studies in teaching and administration at McGill University followed by her Bachelor of Social Work degree and Certificate in Gerontology from St. Thomas University. She has completed the Instructor Development Program through the NB Association of Career Colleges and post graduate studies in Foot Care Management at the Kingston Pedorthic Clinic. She has also completed the NBACC Instructor Development Program.  

In 1998, she developed a multi-disciplinary Foot Care Management Course for nurses. Sharon provided consultations with health care regions assessing their current practices in Foot Care Management and setting goals for development of future service delivery.  

Sharon was the author and designer of instructor guidelines for the Home Support Services at Care-Ed Learning, a division of Senior Watch. This is now known as the Personal Support Worker Program, which has expanded to 1,750 hours of classroom training.  This PSW course, gives graduates their certificate and a PSW Journey Person Card.

 In 2012 Sharon O’Brien received the George Wakeling Award from the St Thomas Third Age Centre for her work with seniors in New Brunswick.  In 2021, Sharon received the CAFCN Award of Excellence in Foot Care Nursing.  We are honored to have worked with Sharon during her active years.
