THE SENIOR WATCH® STORY

Senior Watch Inc was founded in 1987 by Jean E. Porter Mowatt, an organizational specialist and Sharon A. O’Brien, SC; RN, PG; BSW, and CG; a nursing instructor and social worker with many years of experience in the care of the elderly.

Mowatt and O’Brien strategized a gerontology-based approach to foster an independent lifestyle for seniors.  Senior Watch has steadily grown since 1987 to include another agency in Fredericton and a shift in emphasis toward formal caregiver training and a work term apprentice program.

In 1993, Senior Watch founded an Educational Endowment Fund to ensure quality care for the elderly. The fund was established to assist students in the Gerontology Program at St. Thomas University, Fredericton NB.  In addition, the Fredericton office has created the Sharon Lawrence Fund to assist Fredericton employees further their studies in the field of caregiving.

As a result of the efforts of Senior Watch staff several awards were bestowed upon this young company.

In 2001 with a new direction in human resources and a long desired employee retention program Senior Watch entered into a full-time Employee in Action - Learn While You Earn Program.  The employee benefits and services policy created free health care insurance for employees, a Scout Bonus Program and Merit for Growth Program.  Using the benchmarks of aptitude, performance and attitude as its basis, Senior Watch became a leader in home care services to its clients focusing on both client and employee needs.

The Care-Ed Learning College manages the program which allows students to study to be certified Personal Care Aides and/or certified Personal Support Workers while being employed throughout their apprenticeship program at Senior Watch Home Care Services.  Public students can participate in the 12 Modules gaining the required skills and knowledge to become a PCA and/or PSW.

Senior Watch employs full time professionals and paraprofessionals as well as highly effective support staff, all devoted to finding ways to improve the in-home care process.

We proudly welcome you to the Senior Watch team.  We are confident that through our joint efforts and dedication, Senior Watch will continue to make advances in finding new services for our senior community.
